In September last year, we welcomed six new floofs to the force - each working alongside their police parent as part of the North West Metro Region Peer Support Dog Program.
The program was established to support early mental health intervention, encourage open conversation, and help break down the stigma around mental health.
Over the past several months, our pawsome team have:
🐕🦺 completed 93 dedicated peer dog shifts
🐕🦺 conducted 193 workplace visits
🐕🦺 supported over 2,600 employees
🐕🦺 provided 304 one-on-one welfare check-ins
🐕🦺 made 39 referrals to mental health services and supports.
From critical incident debriefs to station visits after traumatic events like road fatalities and homicides, our peer support officers - and their furry friends - are making a real difference.
