It’s finally here. The eyes of the world turned to our country, not quite sure with what to expect out of this evening, or frankly, this whole tournament. But despite the 0-0 draw, Al Ahly and Inter Miami gave us a worthy show last night to start this inaugural expanded Club World Cup. If on the pitch it was an evenly split battle across two halves, the fanfare in the stands was similar. Dozens of thousands of Egyptian fans roared with pride against a sea of pink, and it was thrilling to see two fanbases—typically existing an ocean away from each other—meld on our shores. At times it was an overwhelmingly surreal sight, and it’s hopefully something that can continue to carry throughout this competition.
