When lizkennedy’s family moved to the states, they changed their very Jewish, Israeli last name to protect themselves after the Holocaust. Unlike Liz’s family, my family name remained. It’s quite sad to admit, but I used to be embarrassed by how Jewish my last name sounded. No one could pronounce it (most still can’t) and kids would make fun of it in school. I spent my whole life suppressing my true self just to trying to fit in. Now, at 29, I’m finally learning not only to own it but to speak up about how proud I am to be Jewish. Maybe if more of us felt safe enough to embrace who we are earlier, the world would be a different place. Thoughts? Via friendsofkayla #jewish #jewishpeople #proudjew
