ICYMI: On 30 November 2024, 4 activists boarded a tanker that was about to load toxic plastic chemicals from South Korea’s Daesan complex.
As a part of the Rainbow Warrior’s ship tour on plastic free future in East Asia, they were sending a strong message to cut plastic pollution to the world leaders gathered at the nearby city of Busan for the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5) to negotiate a UN Global Plastics Treaty.
Following this protest, the 4 activists and Rainbow Warrior Captain Hettie were placed under a travel ban and a prolonged investigation in South Korea despite admitting to being on the tanker.
