We have come far, but the road to freedom for us all continues. Today, we stand with black children who are incarcerated and stripped of the freedom to be a kid—because kids learn, kids make mistakes, and kids deserve the grace to grow—an important truth our country still does not seem to understand.
Just as we were guided to freedom fiercely by those who came before us, we must relentlessly guide the generations ahead—not punish, blame, or discard them.
Remember, seeds grow where we plant and water them. And when they don’t, we change the environment around them until they do. Our children deserve the same.
LCCR will never stop fighting for a world where our kids are cared for, protected, and guided appropriately while growing up, especially when they fall down.
