After we left ReykjavĂk, we sailed on the Saturn to ĂŤsafjörður & I did multiple tours from port. The 1st started with a boat ride to picturesque Vigur Island to meet with the wonderful family who take care of it, harvest eider down ethically from the Eider Duck, and run the Vigur Island Foundation for Conservation and Research. I had signed up for the tour because it’s supposed to be one of the best places in Iceland to see puffins. Well, I was a week late. Chock that up to yet another time failing to see them. I think the count is Puffins 5 Kirsten 0. I have the worst luck and have spent so much $ trying to see them only to be thwarted every time. They’re my favorite birds that I would love to see IRL! So I decided to wander the island after listening to our guide. While very small, Vigur Island had a lot of details to entertain a photographer like me that has a fascination with details and textures. There’s also a lovely cafĂ©.
