JUNE 29th! FREEDOM DAY! THE POWER OF LITERACY! Literacy was incredibly important to early African Americans as it represented freedom, empowerment, and opportunity. Literacy was a tool to escape slavery, participate in civic life, and improve economic standing. HISTORY: During slavery, laws prohibited Black people from learning to read and write. FREEDOM! Learning to read and write was seen as a pathway to liberation and a way to build a better future for themselves and their communities.  LIBERATION!
Before the Civil War, literacy was often denied to enslaved people, making the ability to read and write a powerful symbol of liberation.  ————————————————— Juneteenth, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday in the United States. It is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States. #juneteenth #freedom #june19 #literacyforall #reading #literacyisfreedom #equality #freedomday #loveall #literacyadvocate #readin...
