In honor of #WorldSeaTurtleDay, remember to #FlipTheSwitch on harmful beachfront lights to help create a brighter future for the sea turtles that call Miami Beach home. 🌊🐢 Sea turtle season in Miami Beach is from April 1 through October 31. Our beach is a crucial nesting habitat for sea turtles. As sea turtle hatchlings make their way from sand to sea, the stark contrast between the darker dunes and the reflection of the moon over the ocean helps them determine where to go. Artificial lighting near beaches presents a significant hazard by confusing sea turtles and leading them to mistakenly crawl toward the artificial lights instead of heading to the ocean. Turn off the lights to help keep sea turtles safe. 💙 This campaign was funded in part by a grant awarded from the Sea Turtle Grants Program.
