✨ Today we honor Juneteenth — the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom — over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth has been celebrated since 1866 with music, prayer, and community gatherings. It became a federal holiday in 2021, and this year marks 159 years since that first celebration.
