On Juneteenth, we’re revisiting this powerful performance of “Freedom Highway” by The War and Treaty recorded at eTown’s 30th Anniversary, along with Nick. The song was written in 1965 by Pops Staples of The Staple Singers, a response to the realities of the segregated South, the murder of Emmett Till and the Selma to Montgomery marches. It became an anthem of the Civil Rights Movement, rooted in gospel and driven by the fight for justice. Nearly 60 years later, it still carries an important message. #Juneteenth #FreedomHighway #TheWarAndTreaty #StapleSingers
