🚨 Memphis International Airport may soon be renamed after FedEx founder Fred Smith.
Fred, who passed away June 21 at age 80, was more than a businessman — he was a Memphis icon. 🕊️✈️
Board member Jack Sammons plans to officially propose the name change at the June 26 airport meeting, honoring Smith’s legacy and lifelong impact on the city and global logistics.
In Sammons’ words:
“Fred once told me naming buildings was for dead people… ‘Do what you want when I’m gone, but while I’m alive — hell no.’”
Now, with widespread respect and love for him in Memphis and D.C., the motion could take off fast.
