Anglers aboard the Florida boat Nikki Bella caught the marlin just before nightfall on May 29 off Venice, Louisiana, not knowing that a small, tagged tuna had been eaten earlier by the billfish. When the marlin was inspected by researchers, they discovered the mostly-digested 22-inch juvenile yellowfin tuna that had been tagged and released about a month previously by the University of the Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Laboratory.
