Earlier this morning (Monday, June 23rd) Amherst College announced Eddie Effinger as the new head coach for the Mammoths men’s ice hockey team. Effinger is the ninth head coach in the program’s 117-year history, succeeding Jack Arena who held the position the last 41 seasons. Effinger, a graduate of Amherst in 2012, played four years for the Mammoths skating in 97 games while accumulating 38 goals & 39 assists for 77 points. He was captain his last two seasons. The program captured two #NESCAC titles in 2009 & 2012 whilst posting the highest winning percentage over a four-year period (.738) with a 74-23-10 record. The Mammoths also qualified for the #NCAA National Tournament twice as he captained the 2012 team to a Frozen Four appearance. After playing one season of pro hockey in 2012-2013 between the Quad City Mallards (CoHL) and Pensacola Ice Flyers (SPHL), Effinger returned home to began his coaching career at his alma mater as an assistant coach from 2013-2019.
