A Norse story that's bigger than soccer ⚽️💛
Sophomore Natalie Newman, a Marketing & Entrepreneurship major and NKU Women's Soccer player, spent her spring break in Uganda helping a local church and school in Bugiri.
The classrooms were benches in an open field with tin ceilings on sticks, while the church was just a concrete floor. Yet, the children’s excitement to learn and play was undeniable. Natalie, her sister, and her mother also conducted crafts and delivered messages to different age groups, ranging from two to sixteen years old.
Through sports and shared experiences, Natalie and her family brought smiles to the children’s faces. They provided jump ropes, volleyballs, and soccer balls and even handed out NKU jerseys to the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams.
Seeing their happiness despite limited resources shifted Natalie’s perspective, reinforcing the power of gratitude and relationships.
