#BlackMusicMonth: Dorran Thigpen, a proud Jackson native and Class of 2010 graduate of Jackson State University, is a professional trumpeter and creative whose sound and spirit continues to inspire stages nationwide. Most recently, he has performed alongside the legendary Patti LaBelle, delivering soul-stirring horn work that reflects both his Southern heritage and refined artistry. A former section leader in the Sonic Boom of the South, Dorran’s musical roots were deeply cultivated through the tradition, discipline and excellence of JSU’s historic marching band. Today, Dorran is an original member of the newest phase of Sōlful Hornz, a dynamic trio merging jazz, soul and intentionality in sound. In addition to performing, Dorran teaches private trumpet lessons, creates custom horn arrangements and provides session recordings for artists nationwide.
