The fan who heckled Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte about his late mother has been banned from Chicago’s Rate Field, according to the White Sox.
Additionally, the 22-year-old fan admitted to being very inappropriate and was remorseful after the fact.
The ban comes after Marte was visibly shaken up midway through Tuesday’s 4-1 win over the White Sox.
During a pitching change in the seventh inning, Marte was in tears and being consoled by manager Torey Lovullo and shortstop Geraldo Perdomo.
It was later discovered that a fan had yelled something at the second baseman regarding his late mother, Elpidia Valdez, who died in a car accident in 2017. Marte, fresh into his D-backs stint, was just 23 at the time of her death.
The fan was later ejected from the game.
