What makes a shot really stand out?
There are countless ways to elevate a frame—but one detail that often gets overlooked is the eye light, or catch light. It might seem small, but that subtle glint in the eyes adds life, depth, and emotion. It’s often a byproduct of good lighting setups, but it deserves intentional focus. I’ve definitely overlooked it on shoots before... and regretted it later when the footage felt just a little off. Catch lights can be the difference between a subject looking alive or flat. Want proof? Watch a death scene closely—the moment a character passes, the catch light usually disappears. That’s how powerful it is. Keep it in mind. Your future self (and your footage) will thank you. #cinematographytips #directorofphotography #lightingmatters #catchlight #CinematicLook #FilmmakingTips #DPWorkflow #OnSetLife #ColorGradingMagic #VisualStorytelling #ShotComposition #IndieFilmmaker
