From June 15–20, seven students from St. Joe’s participated in an immersion retreat at the Br. David Darst Center in Chicago, organized by Campus Ministry. Throughout the week, they served at a variety of impactful sites—including soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and job centers supporting individuals experiencing homelessness. Through these experiences, students not only offered their time and compassion, but also gained a deeper understanding of the systemic injustices affecting communities in the Windy City. The retreat encouraged reflection on their role in creating a more just and compassionate world.
When asked about his time in Chicago, William Kennedy '27 said, "The Week at the Darst Center helped me see the world in a different perspective and get closer to my brothers that went on the trip.”
Campus Ministry's next immersion experience will take place at Bethlehem Farm in West Virginia from August 3–9.
