At the UN Ocean Conference earlier this month, unep Patron of the Oceans lewis.pugh spoke out about the urgent need to protect sharks and the vital role they play in ocean health. “100 million sharks are killed every year. It’s an ecocide,” he said, stressing that sharks —along with other marine animals— are essential to the survival of our seas. An increasing number of shark species are now threatened with extinction, mainly due to overfishing, habitat loss and climate change. Lewis Pugh praised the work of the #UnitedNations Environment Programme as critical to protecting our planet —including marine species— and securing a better future for all. #SaveOurOcean
