The Berkeley City Council approved a broad set of fee changes within the last week in response to growing operational costs and a projected budget deficit. The fees will impact businesses, residents, homeowners, developers and more.
At their regular meeting June 17, six out of 10 fee proposals related to housing, transportation, public safety and recreation were passed. The remaining four proposals — including fees for fire permits, concealed weapon permits and parking — were approved at a June 24 special meeting. These changes touch nearly every part of city life, and at least half will go into effect July 1.
