Four days after Jabari Latrell Peoples, an 18-year-old college student from Aliceville, was fatally shot by a Homewood police officer on June 23, 2025, his family is demanding body camera footage and the officer's identity. The Homewood Police Department said an officer investigating an occupied car noticed the smell of marijuana. The department said it turned into a struggle, and Peoples was resisting arrest and grabbing for a handgun, prompting a shot from the officer. In a Facebook statement, Peoples' family said he was unarmed, complied, and was shot by an officer in an unmarked car.
