Anyone who’s tried to drive out to Sauvie Island on a sunny summer weekend knows that traffic by the beaches can be brutal. This summer, state officials are trying to curb those traffic jams by implementing a new, limited parking pass that will be required for all cars parking at Sauvie Island beaches on weekends and holidays, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife announced Friday. The Sauvie Island Beach Pass, which will be required from July 4 to Sept. 1 this year, will be free and made available online at sauvieislandparking.com, the department said.
