Ever since the great Down side of 1960/61 put two All Ireland's back to back, no team from Ulster has been able to replicate that feat showing just how difficult it is to achieve. Down themselves were the first county to attempt it in 1970 but lost the Ulster Final. Then came the 90s revival and the absolute carnage that was winning b2b Ulster titles never mind a second Sam Maguire. Armagh came closest of all in 2002 when they became the only team to get back to the AI final but they were beaten by Tyrone who curiously never really hit the heights again after any of their four wins (mitigating factors obviously in 2004).
