16-year-old Pauline Brazeau was a young Métis woman, and single mother. On Jan. 9, 1976, Pauline was last seen leaving Peppe's Ristorante, in the area of 7 Street and 17 Avenue, Calgary, at approximately 3 a.m. A few short hours later, Pauline's body was discovered outside of Calgary.
The RCMP formed a task force that re-investigates unsolved homicides, including Pauline's. Despite extensive investigative efforts Pauline's file remained unsolved, but the police never gave up hope.
In 2022, the RCMP Historical Homicide Unit in partnership with Calgary Police, worked with two dedicated genealogists in an effort to move the file forward. On Nov. 7, 2023, police arrested 73-year-old Ronald James Edwards and charged him with murder.
