Sometimes teachers and parents speak of senioritis ā that common malady in which high school seniors seem to mentally check out.
It can happen in the classroom. It can happen on the ballfield.
It did not happen this year to John Jay-Cross River track star Andy Condon.
Condon, who'll run cross-country next year for the University of Richmond, which does not offer men's track, made his senior year his best year in both sports.
This spring, with essentially four athletes ā Dobbs Ferry sprinter Jayden Smith, New Rochelle 400 runner Ryan Temistokle, Horace Greeley long-distance runner Ryan Sykes and Condon, also a long-distance runner ā considered for The Journal News/lohud Westchester/Putnam Boys Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year award, it was Condon who closed his senior year winning the big win.
