Woman Arrested for Child Endangerment While Panhandling
On Monday afternoon, SCV Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a woman panhandling with an infant in 100-degree heat outside a shopping center at the 26500 block of Bouquet Canyon Road in
#Saugus.
Deputies quickly located the woman getting into a van and made contact with the occupants. Inside, they found a 1-month-old baby... sweaty and uncomfortable, and being held in the back seat with no car seat in the vehicle.
Recognizing the risk to the child's safety, deputies immediately launched a child endangerment investigation. An 18-year-old Rowland Heights woman was ultimately arrested on felony charges and transported to the SCV Sheriff's Station jail. She remains in custody at this time. The infant was transported to a local hospital for evaluation before being released into DCFS custody.
