You said you wanted throwbacks, so we threw it WAY back to 1949. ⁣ ⁣ This is vintage, archived footage from a boxing tournament held at East Bakersfield High School in 1949. ⁣ ⁣ 📰 The Bakersfield Californian published the following in the Sports section on January 20, 1949📰⁣ ⁣ ELIMINATIONS ON MONDAY FOR EAST HIGH TOURNEY⁣ East Bakersfield High School will stage its third annual boxing tournament on Friday night, January 28, in the East High gym.⁣ Sponsored by the Letterman’s Club, the pugilistic tourney was presented before a capacity crowd of 1000 spectators last year.⁣ ⁣ Coached by Les Carpenter, the Blades’ grid boss, the East High mitt-tossers will start elimination bouts on Monday and Wednesday afternoons of next week.
