Fire crews are working to contain an explosive fire in San Luis Obispo County, west of Kern County.
The so-called Madre Fire started on Wednesday afternoon and had burned 35,530 acres by Thursday morning, with only 5% containment.
In less than a day, the fire became California's largest blaze so far this year, growing by more than 55 square miles.
