President Donald Trump visited Florida on Tuesday for a guided walking tour of "Alligator Alcatraz," the new immigration detention facility.
The center, which gets its nickname from the remote location in the Everglades, is being built on an isolated airstrip about 50 miles west of Miami and could house up to 3,000 illegal migrants as they await deportation. Gov. Ron DeSantis joined Trump on the tour, correcting the original number of 5,000.
DeSantis said the first occupants in the detention center are expected to arrive on Wednesday and that the site was modified in only eight days.
During a roundtable discussion after the tour, Trump said the name is appropriate "because I looked outside and it's not a place I want to go hiking any time soon."
