Donât overcomplicate things.
As you can see from the video, children as young as five have short attention spans. They canât take in loads of information or follow complicated instructions.
When working with this age group, itâs all about being clear, quick and keeping things simple. I would recommend that you try to explain the session in under 45 seconds, as any longer and youâll start to lose them.
If one or two children arenât listening⊠no problem! Donât stop. Keep going with your explanation because chances are theyâre actually listening, even if it doesnât look like it. And if theyâre not, just have a quick 1 to 1 chat with them once the activity starts.
Tag games are a brilliant way to keep it simple, as lots of them would have played similar games at school!
