With the strike from Philadelphia’s largest blue collar workers union underway, NBC10 captured a tense exchange between a Philadelphia Department of Sanitation manager and members of AFSCME District Council 33. On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, DC 33 went on strike, impacting trash pickup and other services in Philly. The union represents around 9,000 Philadelphia workers employed in city functions such as sanitation, the water department, police dispatch, street maintenance and the airport. Ahead of the strike, Mayor Cherelle Parker warned that it would impact trash pickup services across Philadelphia. The city then released a list and map of collection centers for residents to bring their trash to amid the strike.
