On an overnight survey this past week, our Nature Team came across a nesting sea turtle! This nest was #62, and Sea Island now has 70 total nests up and down our beach. As nesting season continues and hatchling season begins, we need your help in keeping the beach as dark as possible. Please be sure to turn off any exterior lights and use a turtle-friendly red flash light if you are out at night. Complimentary red tape is available in the Nature Center! Hatchlings navigate toward the brightest light on the horizon - which we hope is the moon reflecting on the water - but outdoor lighting may cause disorientations. Get ready for hatching videos coming soon! 🐢🐢🐢 #turtletuesday
