TL;DW: I think the overwhelming majority, more than 90% of the "body type" and "flattering" advice out there is bad, and shouldn't be your focus when you interact with clothes.
Most of the advice that does work works on pretty much everybody. Yeah, high rise pants look good, that doesn't depend on your body type, that's just good proportion, good composition.
And the only people who know what they're talking about are those old bespoke tailors who have cut for *thousands* of different bodies and developed some *extremely* strong opinions on the topic that only make sense in terms of their greater vision. Besides them, don't listen to anybody, not even me. Try it on and look in the mirror.
