Eating disorders are quietly increasing among women in midlife and beyond.
Experts attribute the silent surge to hormonal shifts caused by menopause, as well as societal pressures and ideas disseminated on social media such as
#SkinnyTok. And because these women don’t fit the stereotype of a person with an eating disorder—namely, they’re not teenage girls—they often experience missed diagnoses or delayed care.
