🌊 July 15 is Arctic Sea Ice Day ❄️ A global reminder of the critical role sea ice plays in regulating our planet’s climate. Did you know the melting of Arctic sea ice impacts more species than just polar bears? Rising global temperatures, primarily caused by the burning of fossil fuels, are having significant impacts on the rainforests of Indonesia, home to thousands of species. These changes increase the risk of forest and brushfires, disrupt species migrations, and heighten drought concerns as the rainforest’s humidity declines. With fewer than 14,000 left in the wild, the Sumatran orangutan - known as the “people of the forest”- faces particularly devastating impacts from climate change. Climate change threatens their habitat, food and water availability, reproduction, and overall survival. It also disrupts their role as a keystone species, which is vital for seed dispersal in their forest ecosystems. Agriculture and human encroachment further exacerbate habitat loss. Orangut...
