I was honored to join a delegation of rabbis, imams, and representatives of other faith communities yesterday. Unfortunately, we have visited far too many shiva (mourning) houses this year, but this visit was different. We gathered at the home of the Zyadna family, a Bedouin Arab family from whom four members were taken hostage. Two were thankfully returned alive in November last year, while tragically, two others (Yousef and Hamza) were recently confirmed to have been killed in Hamas terror tunnels. Despite their immense pain, the family chose to turn this moment into one of intercommunal healing, inviting comforters from diverse faith communities. Sheikh Hassan Abu Eliyon of Rahat and Rabbi Aharon Lavi led meaningful discussions. People have used religious ideas to justify division and hate.
