Due to heavy rains from Tropical Storm Chantal, the Lake Michael Spillway Project coffer dam could fail. The Mebane Police Department, Alamance County Sheriff's Office, and the Mebane NC Fire Department have notified those with homes inside the breach inundation zone to evacuate their homes out of an abundance of caution. The Mebane Arts and Community Center is open and being offered as a temporary emergency shelter. As an extra precaution, other residents living within the Tupelo Junction Subdivision and Retriever Lane have also been notified, even though their homes fall outside the calculated inundation zone. If no one from the above agencies visited your home, you are outside the breach inundation zone.
