Cross training is always challenging, but here are a few tips to get the most aerobic benefit possible:
1. Higher cadence. A faster pace and lower resistance on either the bike or the elliptical can help increase heart rate without quite as much muscular fatigue. A sweet spot for me on the bike is 85-90rpm. Side note: high resistance can also be a great training stimulus, but I find low resistance more challenging aerobically
2. Accelerations. When I start an XT session, the effort usually feels a bit shocking. Doing a few short (5-20sec) accelerations helps me settle into the effort.
3. Distract & motivate. I like to watch races and workouts on YouTube when I need some extra motivation. A great pair of headphones is essential for XT entertainment, and Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 fit the bill. They’re comfortable, have high sound quality, and are able to withstand my profuse sweating 😅
