A sweet treat a day keeps an astronaut’s tastebuds happy! 🍫 M&Ms are ideal for snacking in space because they’re bite-sized and self-contained—not to mention they're large and colorful, which makes them easy to spot if they float away.
A range of other chocolate confections have flown in space, many of which are in the Museum’s collections:
1️⃣ These M&Ms flew on Space Shuttle Atlantis’s STS-27 mission.
2️⃣ This container has a small injection port for adding hot or cold water to dissolve the powder into a drinkable cup of cocoa.
3️⃣ This aluminum pop-top can of chocolate pudding returned from Space Shuttle Atlantis in 1988.
4️⃣ This vacuum-packed chocolate-covered cookie has a circular port in one corner for adding water to make it edible.
5️⃣ If a vacuum-packed cookie isn’t appealing, there’s a second option: a chocolate chip cookie baked fresh in space.
Which one do you want to taste test?
