Israel will send a delegation to Qatar on Sunday for negotiations over a potential Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal — despite declaring that changes requested by Hamas to the U.S.-backed truce proposal are “not acceptable.”
Hamas says it responded to the deal “in a positive spirit,” but sources close to the group cite major concerns over humanitarian aid, control of the Rafah border crossing, and the timeline for Israeli military withdrawal.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office acknowledged the revised proposal but said Israel remains committed only to the original Qatari framework — which it says Hamas is trying to alter. Talks will nonetheless go ahead in Doha, with the return of hostages still a priority.
The negotiations come ahead of Netanyahu’s planned meeting with Donald Trump in Washington on Monday. Trump claimed earlier this week that Israel had agreed to “the necessary conditions” for a 60-day truce — a claim not confirmed by Israeli officials.
