We are happy to introduce Tuki! 💙💛 This beautiful blue-and-yellow macaw has officially joined the flock in the Matilda R. Wilson Free-Flight Aviary. Tuki is more than 16 years old and came to the Detroit Zoo from the pet trade. She was slowly eased into her new home over several months to ensure that the transition was stress-free. Macaws like Tuki are beautiful and evolved for life in the wild, not our homes. They need lots of special care to stay healthy and happy. Join our #NotAPet campaign to help protect wild macaws and other species from joining the pet trade. Tuki has developed a close relationship with our zookeepers and enjoys the extra attention she gets during training sessions. We are happy to say that she has adjusted very well to living in the aviary and can be seen on most days in her large, newly renovated habitat, specially made for macaws. Come to see Tuki soon!
