President Donald Trump signed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” into law July 4, slashing trillions of dollars in federal funding for Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. These cuts and other impacts of the bill have sparked concern and outrage among Berkeley and Alameda County community organizations. In Alameda County, where one in four residents report experiencing food insecurity, about 175,000 residents currently rely on SNAP benefits, according to the Alameda County Community Food Bank.
