Got a special tour of FIBA’s headquarters in Mies, Switzerland today. What an unforgettable deep dive into the history of the game I love. 🏀 Did you know James Naismith invented basketball in 1891? Or that the first Olympic basketball game in 1936 was played outside on a tennis court… in the rain? Today, it’s one of the biggest global sports, and in 2024, it’s bigger than ever. Women’s basketball joined the Olympics 40 years later, paving the way for generations of talent. Seeing basketball history from this perspective was incredible.. especially knowing I’ve been lucky enough to witness some of it firsthand. From playing in the first-ever NBA game in Africa in 2015, to the rise of the Basketball Africa League, and even watching my NBC cohost, Chris Mullin, shine as part of the legendary 1992 USA Dream Team.
