The issue took center stage when President Trump signed an executive order aimed at barring trans girls and women from participating on sports teams consistent with their gender identity. The Trump administration is now suing California over alleged Title IX violations after the Department of Education found the state was in violation of the law passed in 1972. Title IX prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school or any other education program that receives funding from the federal government.
