🦄 Today is World Saola Day - did you know this mysterious species, often called the “Asian unicorn,” was discovered just over 30 years ago? 🌿 Saola used to live deep in the misty Annamite Mountains of Laos and Vietnam, but the last time it was seen was in 2013. Some believe this species is extinct... but if one is ever found, a conservation breeding center in Vietnam’s Bach Ma National Park is ready to help! Hope remains. ✨ The Saola remains an iconic flagship of the Annamite Mountains and protecting its whole forest ecosystem — which species like the Large-antlered Muntjac and the Annamite Striped Rabbit also call home – is critical. 🛑 Poaching poses a major threat for all species that live in the Annamites.
