Ferdowsi (940-1019AD) the great Persian poet, is widely regarded as the preserver of the Persian language and its pre-Islamic cultural identity. Ferdowsi was from the region of Greater Khorasan. During Ferdowsi’s time, Greater Khorasan was a significant cultural and political region encompassing much of what is now Afghanistan. An important part of the lands and cultural assets of the Greater Iran is located in Afghanistan, and in fact, it can be said that the historical and cultural identity of Iran will be seriously damaged and lacking without the region that is today Afghanistan.
