What Bill Clinton learned after leaving the White House…
When Bill Clinton left office, he did what outgoing presidents are expected to do: welcome the next guy, smile for the cameras, and show the country that transitions can be peaceful — even after a tough election.
But what stuck with him wasn’t the ceremony. It was what came after. George W. Bush asked him (twice) to team up with his father on disaster relief. And Clinton said yes. Not because they suddenly agreed on everything, but because the work mattered.
Looking back, Clinton said he realized just how much time and energy we waste fighting over things that don’t actually move the needle.
You don’t have to forget the campaign, the disagreements, or the stakes. But at some point, the question becomes: are we here to win every fight — or to get something done?
