The Sunshine Genetics Act will jumpstart pediatric rare disease research in Florida. The act, championed by Rep. Adam Anderson and signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis, establishes a five-year genetic sequencing pilot program for newborns and creates the Sunshine Genetics Consortium, uniting Florida’s top researchers, clinicians and biotech innovators.  It also establishes the Florida Institute for Pediatric Rare Diseases within the Florida State University College of Medicine, where researchers will develop advanced technologies for precision diagnostics and therapies for children affected by rare genetic diseases.
