How to make Kombucha (part 1): SCOBY 🦠🧫🍺
Kombucha is SO GOOD, but so expensive! And homemade just tastes better. It’s a really fun process so follow along as I will teach you how to make your own! The first and most important step is the SCOBY.
How does it work? A SCOBY is a living culture (looks like a soggy pancake disc) of bacteria and yeast that ferments sweet tea by converting sugars into organic acids, carbon dioxide, and a tiny amount of ethanol — which is why kombucha is fizzy and so tangy! It contains probiotics and aids in digestion, gut health, and balance your microbiome.
🫖Here’s what you’ll need to make your own:
-large clean jar
-cheesecloth
-rubber bands
-1 bottle classic unflavored kombucha
-6 bags black tea or 1 1/2 tbsp loose leaf
-8 cups of water
