The Miners win! ⛏️ Sussex County crushed the New Jersey Jackals, 15-1, at Hinchliffe Stadium. The Miners collected 14 hits and struck out 15 batters to take the first of four games from their in-state rivals. The Miners were up 4-0 in the fourth inning and blew the game open with a seven-run fifth, thanks in part to third baseman Will Zimmerman’s grand slam. Left fielder Gabriel Maciel was perfect at the plate, going 5-for-5, scoring three runs and driving in two. He raised his team-leading batting average to .394. Right fielder Alec Sayre knocked in four runs. Left-hander Jackson Balzan (W, 4-3, 3.01 ERA; pictured above) pitched six brilliant innings, limiting the Jackals to one run on six hits and punching out nine. Relievers Tyler Thornton and Matt Stil tossed three scoreless innings to secure the win.
